Sandra Glaser Parrillo, CPCU
President and Chief Executive Officer
Sandra Glaser Parrillo, CPCU, is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Providence, Rhode Island. Ms. Parrillo joined The Providence in 1977 as an underwriter and served in several underwriting and management positions. In 2000, Ms. Parrillo was elected to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company and its subsidiary, Providence Plantations Insurance Company.
Ms. Parrillo was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics from Rhode Island College, Magna cum laude, in 1978. She received the Wall Street Journal Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior in Economics and Management. In December,1992 she earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration, High Honors, from the University of Rhode Island. She was elected to the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the Business Honor Society of Beta Gamma Sigma. She was awarded the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter in 1986, and the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor in 2000. In 2001, she received the Charles B. Willard Achievement Award from Rhode Island College. She was recognized as one of the region's 25 most industrious and influential business women in the Providence Business News' 2008 Business Women edition. In 2010 she received the Women in Insurance Leadership Award from Insurance Networking News magazine. In 2011 she was received the Distinguished Graduate Award from the University of Rhode Island College of Business Administration and was named the 2011 Insurance Professional of the Year by the Insurance Library of Boston.
Ms. Parrillo serves as a director of Cranston Print Works, Cranston, RI; Mutual Fire Insurance Association, Peabody, Massachusetts; the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce; and the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council. She is Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. She also serves as a director and Past Chairman of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, Indianapolis, Ind.; Past Chairman of the Governing Committee of the Rhode Island Joint Reinsurance Association and is a member of the Insurance Commission of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, the Rhode Island Governor's Insurance Council, the Business Advisory Council for the University of Rhode Island's College of Business Administration, the President's Council of Providence College and the Board of Governors of the Rhode Island Commodores. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute for CPCU. An active member of the American Society of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters, she formerly served as a director of the Rhode Island Chapter.
Ms. Parrillo resides with her husband Richard, daughter, Marissa and son, RJ in North Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Earl F. Cottam, Jr., CPA
Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer
Earl F. Cottam, Jr., CPA, is treasurer and chief financial officer of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Mr. Cottam joined The Providence as treasurer and chief financial officer in 1995. Mr. Cottam was previously associated with KPMG Peat Marwick LLP for seven years, attaining the position of manager two years prior to joining The Providence.
Mr. Cottam is a 1989 graduate of Providence College and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He was awarded the designation of Certified Public Accountant in 1991.
Mr. Cottam is a member of the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants and is active in the community as a coach of Catholic Youth Organization teams for St. Gregory the Great parish in Warwick.
An avid sportsman, Mr. Cottam resides with his family in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Helen Govoni, CPCU
Vice President - Information Systems
Helen Govoni is vice president of information systems of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Ms. Govoni joined The Providence in 1999, having previously provided independent consulting services in information systems to property and casualty companies through the region, including The Providence.
Ms. Govoni was awarded the designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, Associate in Reinsurance and Associate in Insurance Services all in 2008.Ms. Govoni resides with her family in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
Patricia Cline
Vice President - Underwriting
Patricia Cline is the vice president of underwriting of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Ms. Cline joined the Providence in 2001 as an underwriter. She was named assistant vice president in 2005.
Ms. Cline attended Des Moines Community College in Des Moines, Iowa, and Arapaho College in Denver, Colorado. She was awarded the Insurance Institute of America's Associate Underwriter designation in 1992. Ms. Cline has held a succession of underwriting positions with respected insurance companies in the Midwest and Northeast. She also has a wealth of independent agency management experience.
Ms. Cline is a golf and reading enthusiast residing in Coventry, Rhode Island.
Thomas F. Burkart, SCLA
Vice President - Claims
Thomas F. Burkart, SCLA is Vice President of Claims of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Mr. Burkart joined the Providence in August of 2005 after serving as a Director of Casualty Claims within the Agency Markets division of Liberty Mutual. Prior experiences include claims positions within The Peerless Insurance Company as well as two other national carriers.
Mr. Burkart holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Adelphi University and earned his Senior Claims Law Associates Designation in December 1995. He currently is a member of the Governors Insurance Council Disaster Preparedness SubGroup in Rhode Island and is a past member of the Boston Association of Claims Executives and the Central Claims Executive Association.
An enjoyer of all sports, Mr. Burkart and his family reside in Brooklyn, Connecticut.
Richard A. Sinnigen
Assistant Treasurer and Secretary
Richard A. Sinnigen is assistant treasurer and secretary of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company. A graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Mr. Sinnigen joined The Providence in 1978 as accounting assistant to the treasurer. He was appointed assistant treasurer in 1983. In 2000, Mr. Sinnigen was also named secretary of the company.
A member of the Association of Mutual Insurance Accountants, Mr. Sinnigen formerly served as president and as a member of the SIR Accounting Committee.
An avid golfer, Mr. Sinnigen resides in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Joseph J. Muccio
Assistant Vice President - Actuarial
Joseph Muccio joined Providence Mutual in 2006 as the company's actuary and was named Assistant Vice President in 2009. He has 15 years of industry experience in both personal and commercial lines.
Mr. Muccio is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Project Management Professional. He is also a member of the CAS Examination Committee, two ISO actuarial panels, and the Project Management Institute.
Mr. Muccio graduated from Rhode Island College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Philosophy. He earned his fellowship designation in 2002, his project management certification in 2005, and his master's certificate in project management in 2008.
